The East Anglian Garden Group Summer Social 2026

A balmy July  evening, a plantsman’s garden full of choice blooms and hidden surprises, two welcoming and attentive hosts, a string quintet serenading us – and strawberries and cream! Everyone’s dream of an English summer which came together perfectly for the East Anglian Garden Group’s Summer Social, held at Stanley Bates’ and Michael Elles’ famed garden in Woolpit.

A big thank you to our hosts for inviting us to have our annual party at Bridges. Also to the EAGG committee for hulling hundreds of strawberries, chopping cheese and getting it all together – and a round of applause for the co-opted ‘other halves’ who manned the bar with enthusiasm. Most importantly an even bigger thank you to the sixty-five EAGG members and their friends who joined us and made the evening such a success. It was a record attendance, and we’re delighted that donations for all those extra glasses of wine raised £131 for St. Nicholas Hospice.

Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you at our first meeting of the autumn on Saturday 3 October when Kim O’Brien will tell us why ‘Dahlias Steal the Show.’
