Holiday Information 2025
EAST YORKSHIRE GARDENS HOLIDAY BY COACH - 23-26 JUNE 25
MERCURE YORK FAIRFIELD HOTEL , YORK . HALF BOARD. DINNER AND BREAKFAST INCLUDED. DEPART LAVENHAM 8AM.
This is going to be a wonderful holiday, with Kings Luxury Coaches, four days of magical gardens in what we hope will be warm and sunny June weather.
On our outward journey, the first garden will be BARNSDALE GARDEN, at Oakham. Eight acres comprising 38 individual gardens, highlighting certain aspects for particular types of plants, including herbs, fruit and roses, set up by BBC Gardeners World’s Geoff Hamilton, and now carried on expertly by his son Nick. There is a restaurant here where you may buy lunch.
After lunch we will continue North to SKIPWITH HALL, at Selby. This is a four acre walled garden of a Queen Anne house, home of Sir Charles and Lady Forbes Adam. Historic formal gardens partly designed by Cecil Pinsent, wild flower walks, wood, meadow, no dig garden with herb maze, a collection of old fashioned shrub roses and climbers, and fan trained fruit. Refreshments will be provided. After which we will drive to the hotel for check in and dinner
On June 24th, we will be spending the whole day at RHS BRIDGEWATER, exploring all this new RHS garden has to offer. 154 acres of glorious gardens set in Salford’s historic landscape. This inspiring oasis continues to evolve with help from award-winning designers and the local community. After a lush greeting from the the Worsley Welcome Garden, step inside the walls of the Paradise Garden and admire the awe inspiring blend of Mediterranean and Asiatic planting. Treat your senses to the abundant Kitchen Garden, or follow the winding paths of the Chinese Streamside Garden. The cafe will be open here, from 11-30 to 3pm where you can buy lunch. We will return to the hotel in time for dinner.
June 25th - Today we will be visiting SCAMPSTON, at Malton. Set within the 18th century walls of the original kitchen garden for Scampston Hall. Today the Walled Garden has an exciting and unashamedly modern feel to it and complements the adjacent ‘Capability’ Brown landscape. Piet Oudolph has created an outstanding example of his skill as a designer with his great knowledge as a plantsman. There is a cafe here for lunch.
After lunch we will travel on to BREEZY KNEES, at Warthill. Here there are 20 acres with over 10,000 different varieties of flowers, shrubs and trees, extensive herbaceous borders, sparkling fountains and annual meadows. There is a cafe for teas and cakes.
June 26th, and our final day. This morning we will be visiting the internationally famous YORK GATE, in Adel. A one acre jewel of a garden with 14 individual rooms. Unusual architectural topiary, and interesting plant combinations. Included in the price is a private restaurant where we will have sandwiches and cake.
Our final stop is at HOME FARM, at Ryhall, Stamford. Hundreds of roses, many old English fragrant varieties, lavender avenues and herbaceous borders fill the formal part of this 9 acre garden. A wildflower meadow, with a woodland walk encourages wildlife. The southeast facing terrace overlooks the garden giving far reaching views. Tea is included here.
We journey home, arriving in Lavenham at approximately 7 - 7.30 pm.
